The "Stage Door Canteen" was created in New York City as a recreational center for servicemen on leave or about to be deployed during World War II to socialize with, be entertained by, or served by theatrical celebrities. Not to be out-done, the west coast responded with the "Hollywood Canteen," providing the same services, and frequented by movie celebrities. The Lakeshore Big Band salutes both establishments in this concert which will feature music from the heyday of the big bands, by the greatest band leaders of the Big Band Era -- Glenn Miller, Jimmy and Tommy Dorsey, Benny Goodman, and more -- and the vocalists who sang their hits.
